The final requirement God laid out for giving us an open heaven and ushering in a revival is this:
2 Chronicles 7:14 – KJV – If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
In this age of grace, it seems that the church thinks this is optional. But we have a responsibility to live a holy life because He has saved us. Consider these verses from the New Testament in this age of grace:
Galatians 5:19 – 24 NAS – Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
When will we as Christians realize that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God?
We look at some of the things on this list and it is easy to say, “That is wrong” (i.e. immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry). But then, we get into some that hit ministers right between the eyes: Strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, envy, etc.
I have heard it over and over: “Well, we are not perfect…..” and then the ministers proceed to shred the flock with their own anger and pride. If you are having a problem with crucifying these sins, perhaps it would be best for you to step down from the ministry for a time and get some counseling. Because we are called to exhibit the fruit of the Spirit and God will not grant us an open heaven when we live this way. As a matter of fact, it says that those who practice this will not even get into heaven. That is what is meant by this verse:
2 Corinthians 13:5 – KJV – Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
When Christ is truly in us, we will be purifying our lives from the works of the flesh:
1 John 3:3 – KJV – And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
This is when we know we are in the faith: when we are purifying our lives from the works of flesh. If there is no conviction when we exhibit these sins, it is time to check to see if we are really saved.
So, God’s requirement for revival is steep. We must be humble, we must pray, we must seek His face and we must turn from these wicked ways. When this happens, we will know it because God will give us such a revival like we have never seen with thousands turning to Him. Until then, we will be locked into our mediocre services with no power to set people free. Is this what you want?
