1 Peter 5:8 – 9 KJV – Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

We have a formidable opponent. He has been at this game for thousands of years and he knows man’s weaknesses inside and out. He has doomed a vast majority of the people who have ever lived on earth to an eternity in hell with him. But hell was never prepared to hold all those souls:

Isaiah 5:14 – KJV – Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it.

Even though Satan has been at his deceiving game for much longer than any of us have been alive, God has been at His plan for much longer than the devil has been alive. Therefore, we have God’s wisdom to draw upon when we are attacked.

2 Corinthians 2:11 – KJV – Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

Supernatural wisdom and insight is available just by asking for it.

James 1:5 – KJV – If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth  to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

We are given this wisdom so we can take action. We are told in 1st Peter that we are not to let down our guard. Many Christians think that because Jesus won the victory for us that we need not do anything when it comes to fighting the battle. If that were true, these verses would not be in the Bible. God did not write stuff in His word just to up the word count. He was not in a novel writing contest to see who could write the most words. Every word is needed and every word is important:

2 Timothy 3:16 – KJV – All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Isaiah 55:11 – KJV – So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

So, our job is to RESIST the devil. We are to remain on guard and resist his advances toward us. This takes action on our part. We have a guarantee that our resistance will result in Satan’s defeat:

James 4:7 – KJV – Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Put the devil on the run today. Watch out! He is trying to devour you.
