ARE YOU TWISTING SCRIPTURES?

2 Peter 3:18 – NAS – but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

Grow – auxano – to cause to grow, to increase, to become greater

Grace – Charis – Divine influence upon the heart and reflection in the life including gratitude.

Our lives are not to be stagnant after we accept Christ as our Savior. We are commanded to GROW in grace. This shoots down anyone who says that we do not have to change anything in our lives after we become Christians. If we are “complete” when we come to Christ, why would we have to increase in divine influence upon our hearts? And why would we need to have this reflect in our life – showing that we are growing?

We are to be like Paul and “Die Daily”. Paul in 1st Corinthians 15, goes through a long dissertation on the resurrection of the dead. At the end of this, he makes the following statement:

1 Corinthians 15:34 – Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

Here again, Paul makes another statement saying, that awakening to righteousness means to sin not. And if we are sinning we do not have the knowledge of God.

Do not make the mistake of believing that we can just go along through life and never think about living correctly.

Hebrews 12:14 – KJV – Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

Holiness means sanctification of life. This verse says that without that, we will not see the Lord. Let us live a life worthy of our calling.

2 Peter 3:10 – KJV – But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

2 Peter 3:11 – KJV – Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, WHAT MANNER OF PERSONS OUGHT YE TO BE IN ALL HOLY CONVERSATION AND GODLINESS,

2 Peter 3:15 – KJV – And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;

2 Peter 3:16 – KJV – As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, WHICH THEY THAT ARE UNLEARNED AND UNSTABLE WREST, AS THEY DO ALSO THE OTHER SCRIPTURES, UNTO THEIR OWN DESTRUCTION.

2 Peter 3:17 – KJV – Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

This is where a lot of people get tripped up. They want to take Paul’s scriptures on grace to try to make them mean that you can live any old way and get to heaven. Even the Apostle Peter said that some of Paul’s scriptures are hard to understand.

Then he says something very interesting. He says that unlearned and unstable people twist these Scriptures to their own destruction. I believe that is what is happening with the “finished work of Christ” message. They are twisting scriptures saying that we do not have to even think about what we are doing, because we are not to have a sin consciousness.

Do not be deceived by these teachings. Do not let anyone deceive you – stay stedfast!
