Let’s continue in 1st Timothy

12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because He considered me faithful, putting me into service, 13 even though I was formerly a blasphemer bibleand a persecutor and a violent aggressor. Yet I was shown mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief; 14 and the grace of our Lord was more than abundant, with the faith and love which are found in Christ Jesus. 15 It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all. 16 Yet for this reason I found mercy, so that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might demonstrate His perfect patience as an example for those who would believe in Him for eternal life. 17 Now to the King eternal , immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
We are given grace by God to perform whatever ministry He places us in. And it does not matter what we FORMERLY were: we are all born in sin needing a Saviour. While in this state, we are acting ignorantly when we reject the truth of God’s word.Jesus-on-the-cross
Many people think they are very astute, and their intelligence is why they reject God and His word. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is man’s ignorance and fallen nature that causes him to reject the love and word of God when it falls on his ears.
But God, in His mercy, continues to send servants to preach to sinners so faith can be birthed in their hearts and they will surrender to their Creator. Paul was the chief of sinners and God sent Ananias to proclaim the gospel to him.
Acts 9: 10 Now there was in Damascus a disciple named Ananias. The Lord said to him in a vision, Ananias. And he answered, Here am I, Lord. 11 And the Lord said to him, Get up and go to the street called Straight and ask at the house of Judas for a man of Tarsus named Saul, for behold, he is praying [there]. 12 And he has seen in a vision a man named Ananias enter and lay his hands on him so that he might regain his sight. 13 But Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard many people tell bibleabout this man, especially how much evil and what great suffering he has brought on Your saints at Jerusalem; 14 Now he is here and has authority from the high priests to put in chains all who call upon Your name. 15 But the Lord said to him, Go, for this man is a chosen instrument of Mine to bear My name before the Gentiles and kings and the descendants of Israel; 16 For I will make clear to him how much he will be afflicted and must endure and suffer for My name’s sake. 17 So Ananias left and went into the house. And he laid his hands on Saul and said, Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, Who appeared to you along the way by which you came here, has sent me that you may recover your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.

Ananias was not enthusiastic about approaching this persecutor of Christians and, after a short argument with God, he found the courage to go. This obedience caused the greatest movement of salvation among the gentiles and it continues today. Remember that when God tells you to speak out and you are afraid.
Also remember that God is extremely patient with people, He is longsuffering, but He will not wait forever. In 2nd Peter, judgement that came upon the world through the noahs flooduniversal flood is discussed and how God WILL BRING JUDGEMENT on this world again. He has promised this.
And what He has promised, he will do. But He is extremely patient to man and is holding off judgement to give each man a chance to come to Him.
2 Peter 3:9 – The Lord does not delay and is not tardy or slow about what He biblepromises, according to some people’s conception of slowness, but He is long-suffering (extraordinarily patient) toward you, not desiring that any should perish, but that all should turn to repentance.

God does not want any of us to parish. Won’t you accept this gracious invitation while the door of opportunity is still open?

Let’s continue in 1st Timothy chapter 1:

8 But we know that the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully, 9 realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and biblerebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers 10 and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching, 11 according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted.
The law, God’s law, is a good thing.

The first thing we must understand is if people were born basically good (the founding pillar of humanism), we would not need laws to tell us what is bad. But, since we know man is born in sin and born evil, laws are necessary.
The sins Paul lists in this passage are extremely politically incorrect today. And it appears he had to combat the liberal forces of his day to keep the preaching of the Word of God pure.

After the list, he makes sure that he throws in, “and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching”. He assumed we would know what those things were.
In our modern society, the lines have been blurred between the right and the wrong. No such indecision exists in God’s mind. Preachers today are afraid to tell the truth from theGod's law Bible and that is why society has a watered-down view of morality. This is a problem that we must fix if we are to see a last day’s revival.
Verse 11 says Paul was entrusted with the glorious gospel of the blessed God. So are we. The world will not be able to believe unless we preach what is right and wrong.
Romans 10:17 – So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Why do we see evil advancing? Because we refuse to stand in the way with the sword of the Spirit. We refuse to be looked at as “uncaring, unfeeling, and even unchristian.”
Well, as servants of our God, he did not give us the option to keep quiet.

We are entrusted with the same gospel as the Apostle Paul. Let’s make sure what we say sounds exactly like what Paul says in these verses.

1st Timothy
1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus according to the commandment of God our Savior, and of Christ Jesus, who is our hope, 2 To Timothy, my true child in the faith: Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. 3 As I urged you upon my departure for Macedonia, remain on at Ephesus so that you may instruct certain men not to teach strange doctrines, 4 nor to pay attention to myths and bibleendless genealogies, which give rise to mere speculation rather than furthering the administration of God which is by faith. 5 But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. 6 For some men, straying from these things, have turned aside to fruitless discussion, 7 wanting to be teachers of the Law, even though they do not understand either what they are saying or the matters about which they make confident assertions.

First, we see that being an apostle is a calling. And not just a calling, Paul was CALLED OF GODCOMMANDED to be an apostle. This was not a choice. Whether he wanted to or not, it was God’s will for his life. Because of this, Paul did not shy away from saying that he was an apostle. It was Gods calling that established his authority – not a seminary degree.

Now Paul is instructing his protégé, Timothy on what his job is at Ephesus. He also prays for grace, mercy, and peace on Timothy. As you go to the next verse, you will see why Timothy was going to need it.
Timothy’s mission at Ephesus was to stop Certain Men from teaching strange doctrines. Evidently, this was a big problem. Paul said these men espoused myths that they were merely speculating on. They were teaching these myths as if they were gospel.
Speculation becomes a problem today when preachers try to be politically correct and preach opinion as gospel. When they try to “water down” the word to increase the deadly doctrinesnumber of people in their church, they are into this realm. But God will always send a Timothy to urge them not to teach strange doctrines that can not be backed up by the Word of God.
Paul tells Timothy that the goal is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. Today, many would take that verse to mean you should not offend at any cost. It cannot mean that: because Timothy would not be able to do it with a good conscience if he let them continue because he was afraid to tell them the truth.
The fruitless discussions these men put forth are hurtful: people listening to them can be god breathedled astray by these men who want to be teachers of the law but have no idea what they are talking about. These men were not called. They were trying to preach for a living. It is dangerous to step into those shoes.

James 3:1 – My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.
Contrast that to the calling of Paul and Timothy.

THE FIRST MISCONCEPTION… the earth is infinite

The first misconception: THE EARTH IS INFINITE


The first fallacy on which global warmists base their thinking is this: They believe the earth will last forever and, therefore, we must make sure we preserve it for the next 100,000 generations. This is in direct contradiction to the Word of God.

Revelation 21:1 – Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea.


2nd Peter 3: 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.

11 Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat! 13 But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.


Hebrews 1: 10 And, “You, Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the works of Your hands; 11 They will perish, but You remain; And they all will become old like a garment, 12 And like a mantle You will roll them up; Like a garment they will also be changed. But You are the same, And Your years will not come to an end.”


So, we see, the earth is not going to be around forever. There is a date on God’s calendar (and none of us know what day that will be) when the earth’s time is up and He will give us a new heaven and a new earth where righteousness is the order of the day. God has the right to do this because:

1 Corinthians 10:26 – For the earth is the Lord’s, and all it contains.


Colossians 1:16 – For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities–all things have been created through Him and for Him.

God can do with the earth as He pleases. The great thing is, He has TOLD us what He is going to do. And yet, some people do not believe it. The scripture says that those people who mock Christians when they say God is going to judge the earth, are WILLING IGNORANT of history. God DID destroy the earth in the past. He flooded the entire earth. However, evil men do not want to admit to this because then, they would have to admit that God will destroy it again: BY FIRE. God promised to destroy it by a flood, and God has promised to destroy it by fire. The first promise was kept, and the second promise will be kept as well:


2nd Peter 3: Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. 5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.


The very foundation of the philosophy of global warmists is based on the theory the earth is here forever. So, they believe, that if you drive your car today, 1,000,000 years from now, the people on earth will not have clean air to breathe. It is my belief, according to the Bible, that the earth will not be around that long. God has placed systems in place for the earth to renew its air, water and land for as long as it takes for the earth’s time to expire. Then, it will be time to renovate and God will start the process of creation of the new heaven and the new earth. Man will not fix the problems of the earth by legislation and liberal anti-God thinking. GOD does not even plan to fix this present earth. He is going to make a new one. Why do we think we can fix it? Next, we will discuss WHY we have problems in our environment.

The theory of global warming has come into some question of late. Al Gore promised us that, if we did not change our ways, all the icebergs would melt by 2016. Well, our icebergs seem to be alive and well; and New York is still above water.

I am going to give a biblical perspective on this subject. It will take several blog entries. These will be, undoubtedly, VERY controversial; even in Christian circles. I welcome input on the subject if you can quote the Reference from the Bible where you get your point. I am not interested in quotes from scientists, textbooks, or liberal theories. Science has not had a good record of accomplishment when it comes to refuting God or His Word.

For example:

 Isaiah 40:22 –  It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

Here, we have the Bible correctly stating the science that the earth is round a full 800 years before “the experts” could “prove” this fact. The scientists of the day could “prove” the earth was flat. “just look at it,” they would say, “do you not trust what you see with your own eyes?”

Here is the premise with which we will start this discussion: TRUE science and the Bible will ALWAYS agree. When it appears that science contradicts what the Bible says, we must conclude that, like the example above, Man has not acquired enough knowledge to prove the facts of the Bible. In other words, our “brightest minds” are too stupid to figure it out yet. We must give them at least 800 years to catch up to the truth as written by God. This should not be surprising to us. God himself said:

Isaiah 55:9 –  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.


You will always have those who do not believe. That is OK. We have a verse for that as well:


Romans 3: 3 For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? 4 God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged


Unconverted men throughout history have persecuted those of the Christian faith and belittled our beliefs. The same thing continues to this day. Do not be intimidated when someone tries to “prove” you are wrong. Just remember to continue to quote the Bible and you will be justified in your sayings, and you will overcome when you are judged. Give man another 800 years, and he will become smart enough to prove the Bible right every time. This is true if we are talking about any subject: creation, homosexuality and gay marriage, whether people are born as transgender, or any other subject that Godless man thinks he can prove. You can stand on the solid rock of the Word of God. It is the ONLY sure footing for truth and morality in this world.

Proverbs 25:26 If the godly give in to the wicked, it’s like polluting a fountain, or muddying a spring.

We are living in a day when Christians have been intimidated by a politically correct society to the point that we are afraid to stand up for our faith. We are told that if we speak out on what the Bible clearly lists as sin and perversion, we are not showing the love of Christ. Even Christians try to use Scripture to prove that you should not speak up. “We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers….” The main problem here, is that most of those who quote such scriptures are  not  wrestling at all……They will not stand for anything and they say, “well, God has it in control.” Then they proceed to allow wickedness to go on unchecked until it comes to roost a little closer to home: perhaps their children become addicted to drugs or alcohol. Or their daughters have an abortion, Etc. Then they want to blame God for not stopping this.

Our society is moving further and further  from the truth of God’s word and we as Christians are remaining silent. We give in, and let the wicked control all areas of our government, our entertainment, our schools, even our churches and the muddy waters are become positively unfit to swim in.

Do not let what this verse predicts come to pass! It starts with the word: “IF” which means this is a conditional outcome: IF we give in, the waters become polluted. Yes, we have an uphill battle to fight in our nation since Christians have let the devil take his course over this last generation. But, remember: There is a BIG difference between difficult and impossible.

And with God, nothing shall be impossible Luke 1:37.

But if we continue to give in to the wicked without so much as a whimper, we, as Christians, will not even be able to live the United States of America and worship in freedom. Our children and grandchildren will pay the price in persecution for our lack of guts. Remaining silent, proves we are ashamed.

I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Romans 1:16

We need to stand up as a group, but do not wait for others to speak up. They are probably waiting for you!


Jude 1:3-4 NLT

Jude 1:3 – Dearly loved friends, I had been eagerly planning to write to you about the salvation we all share. But now I find that I must write about something else, urging you to defend the truth of the Good News. God gave this unchanging truth once for all time to his holy people.

Jude 1:4 – I say this because some godless people have wormed their way in among you, saying that God’s forgiveness allows us to live immoral lives. The fate of such people was determined long ago, for they have turned against our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.


We are seeing this in our churches today. So many people are preaching that God’s forgiveness covers everything: on the surface, this is a correct statement. But, as with all doctrine, we must compare scripture with scripture in order to obtain a true doctrine. All scripture must line up or it is a false doctrine. This does not include the opinions of man or those who have a private interpretation.


2nd Peter 1: 16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. 18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Even the Apostle Peter did not place a personal message from God above the Word of God. The Word is a more sure word of Prophecy.

Now back to Jude. He said that he wanted to talk about the salvation we all share: in other words, he wanted to write to them about the grace of God. But, since there were people saying that God’s forgiveness allows us to live immoral lives, he had to write about that. He tells us that we should defend the truth. The King James puts it this way:

Jude 1:3 – Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

The Greek word for contend means that we should take a position against as in a contest. This is a forceful word saying to strive, which gives us the obligation to speak against such heresy. He then goes on to describe the faith that was NOT delivered unto the saints and what we should strive against.

Jude 1:4 – I say this because some godless people have wormed their way in among you, saying that God’s forgiveness allows us to live immoral lives. The fate of such people was determined long ago, for they have turned against our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

After this he brings several examples of how God judged those who were not faithful: he says that anyone preaching this false doctrine has forgotten about these examples. Yes, these examples are in the Old Testament, and Jude does a masterful job of bringing these facts into the New Testament and reminding us how God judges those who are unfaithful.

Let’s not be deceived by those who say that it does not matter what our lives look like to the world. We are to ACTIVELY “put on Christ” How do we do this? By not using the grace of God to fulfil our lust:

Romans 13:14 – But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.


These are the words of God – not the Apostle Paul. But, the apostle Paul, who wrote these words, was no dummy. If it were not possible to make provision for the flesh within the grace of God, these words would have not been written. God never wastes words in the Bible. So, we conclude, that it is possible for us to use the grace of God to make allowances for our sins, just as Jude said. Do not be deceived by this false doctrine that says you can live any way you want. And, do not be afraid to challenge it – we are commanded to do so.

These next verses let us know which ACTIONS cause us to be unrighteous and be among those who will not inherit God’s kingdom. If we are practicing these actions, we are not born of God. Examine yourself to see if you are in the faith.

1 Corinthians 6:9 – Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,etc.

1st John 3:7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. 8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.


Remember, make the tree good and the fruit good, or make the tree evil and the fruit evil: We cannot have it both ways.


2 Peter 3:18 – NAS – but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

Grow – auxano – to cause to grow, to increase, to become greater

Grace – Charis – Divine influence upon the heart and reflection in the life including gratitude.

Our lives are not to be stagnant after we accept Christ as our Savior. We are commanded to GROW in grace. This shoots down anyone who says that we do not have to change anything in our lives after we become Christians. If we are “complete” when we come to Christ, why would we have to increase in divine influence upon our hearts? And why would we need to have this reflect in our life – showing that we are growing?

We are to be like Paul and “Die Daily”. Paul in 1st Corinthians 15, goes through a long dissertation on the resurrection of the dead. At the end of this, he makes the following statement:

1 Corinthians 15:34 – Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

Here again, Paul makes another statement saying, that awakening to righteousness means to sin not. And if we are sinning we do not have the knowledge of God.

Do not make the mistake of believing that we can just go along through life and never think about living correctly.

Hebrews 12:14 – KJV – Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

Holiness means sanctification of life. This verse says that without that, we will not see the Lord. Let us live a life worthy of our calling.

2 Peter 3:10 – KJV – But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

2 Peter 3:11 – KJV – Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, WHAT MANNER OF PERSONS OUGHT YE TO BE IN ALL HOLY CONVERSATION AND GODLINESS,

2 Peter 3:15 – KJV – And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;

2 Peter 3:16 – KJV – As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, WHICH THEY THAT ARE UNLEARNED AND UNSTABLE WREST, AS THEY DO ALSO THE OTHER SCRIPTURES, UNTO THEIR OWN DESTRUCTION.

2 Peter 3:17 – KJV – Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.


This is where a lot of people get tripped up. They want to take Paul’s scriptures on grace to try to make them mean that you can live any old way and get to heaven. Even the Apostle Peter said that some of Paul’s scriptures are hard to understand.

Then he says something very interesting. He says that unlearned and unstable people twist these Scriptures to their own destruction. I believe that is what is happening with the “finished work of Christ” message. They are twisting scriptures saying that we do not have to even think about what we are doing, because we are not to have a sin consciousness.

Do not be deceived by these teachings. Do not let anyone deceive you – stay stedfast!


2 Timothy 2:19 – NAS – Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness.”

You would never buy a house if you found, upon inspection, that the foundation was damaged. This is common sense. However, we have many in Christianity who are trying to sell a gospel with a cracked foundation. They are trying to sell to a compromising church the idea that we, as Christians, can live any way we want to. There are no boundaries, because Christ said, “it is finished” on the cross. They say that we are not to worry about any of our behavior because we are not “to feel guilty” about anything.

The Greek word for foundation themlios means exactly the way it is translated. The first principles, the beginning, etc. and the greek word sphragis (seal) means that by which anything is authenticated. The word aphistemi, abstain, is an action word which means to withdraw oneself from, to stand aloof.

So, Paul here is saying that the very first principles that we are to learn as a Christian and causes the building to stand sure are these: We can feel secure in our salvation because the Lord knows which people are his. And we can feel secure in our salvation because every one who names the name of the Lord abstains from wickedness.

Now what you have to ask yourself: Am I abstaining from wickedness? I even had one of the people who are trying to sell the other gospel ask me, “Which sins are we talking about?” I was taken aback by this because this person was setting themselves up as a teacher and did not even know the sins that are listed in the New Testament. It is a further concern seeing that this verse says that this IS THE BEGINNING of what we should know. He went on to say that we can not get to heaven by works of righteousness.

I have seen that this group is getting “works of righteousness” confused with “abstaining from wickedness.” If you will look at the verses which talk about not of works, (Eph. 2) you will find circumcision mentioned in the chapter. So, of course we can not do works of righteousness to get to heaven. (I.e. circumcision, walking up steps on our knees, giving to the poor, etc.) but none of these things classify as sin. This is a separate group of actions where you are trying to earn your way.

This is not the same as abstaining from wickedness BECAUSE you are saved. We must be sure to abstain from wickedness because we have been delivered. If you are not abstaining from what the Bible defines as wickedness, then you should check your salvation. Jesus came to save us from our sins, not in our sins.


I have been hearing a lot of people talking about some new doctrine where we are not to have a “sin consciousness”. I am not sure exactly what they are talking about, but when I question them, they seem to be saying that we are saved by grace, (which is true), that we are made righteous by the death of Christ, (which is true), and that we can do anything we want to without guilt because we are righteous. (This part I can not find in the Bible.)

I will be writing on this on Mondays for the next few weeks. I feel that it is doing great harm to the body of Christ and I feel compelled to speak against this. Today, I want to look at 1st Tim. chapter 1.

18 I’m passing this work on to you, my son Timothy. The prophetic word that was directed to you prepared us for this. All those prayers are coming together now so you will do this well, fearless in your struggle,
19 keeping a firm grip on your faith and on yourself. After all, this is a fight we’re in.
There are some, you know, who by relaxing their grip and thinking anything goes have made a thorough mess of their faith.
20 Hymenaeus and Alexander are two of them. I let them wander off to Satan to be taught a lesson or two about not blaspheming.

19 Cling to your faith in Christ, and keep your conscience clear. For some people have deliberately violated their consciences; as a result, their faith has been shipwrecked.
20 Hymenaeus and Alexander are two examples. I threw them out and handed them over to Satan so they might learn not to blaspheme God.  NLT

This seems to describe the group I am talking about. When they say we are not to have a “sin consciousness”, I fear that they are rejecting the very umpire that God has granted to us to keep us from doing the things that are not pleasing in his sight.

1st John 3: 20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.
22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

In first Timothy, We are told not to violate our conscience. This does not mean we “change our mind” so that we no longer feel any guilt when we do something that is listed as sin, it means that we no longer do those things. That way, not only are we free from the guilt of sin, but also the consequences of sin – in this life, if not the next. Whatever Paul was talking about in 1st Timothy, Hymenaeus and Alexander did something worthy of discipline in Paul’s eyes and God’s eyes. Let us not balspheme by deliberately violating our conscience.
